Frequently asked questions

Re-Cycle relies entirely on the generous funding, in-kind support and donations that we receive.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all - with special thanks to the following:

Community Recycling and Economic Development programme

CRED logoIn 2005, Re-Cycle received three-year funding from the Community Recycling and Economic Development programme, which is supported by the Big Lottery Fund.  This money enabled us to move into combined storage and office premises in central Colchester and to increase the number of bikes we ship.

InsideOutTrust - Restorative Justice at Work in Prisons

We have a close working relationship with InsideOutTrust (IOT). We supply them with bicycles, which they return after full refurbishment at one of their HM Prison workshops.

We would like to thank IOT and the inmates. Your work repairing bikes means that our African partners receive good bikes, ready to go. (InsideOutTrust website

Our thanks to Martin Lewis the ‘money saving expert’, whose charity arm regularly sends Re-Cycle very welcome donations, which go towards our shipping costs.

Martin, who often appears on television giving financial advice, holds an annual vote on his website, to choose which charities they will support in the coming year – please remember to vote for Re-Cycle the next time you visit his very informative and helpful website. Royal Mail

After seven years of delivering your post, the ‘red postie bikes’ are retired to Re-Cycle. We then find them new homes in Africa. They are valued for their strong, load-carrying design and are often used for carrying goods to and from market. We are very grateful to the Royal Mail for their ongoing support of our work (Royal Mail website)

Universal Cycles

Re-Cycle receives donations of new bicycle parts from Universal Cycles. This is the largest importer of bicycles in the UK.  These shiny new parts are a great treat for the African workshops, enabling them to build new bikes and repair old ones.

We look forward to continuing our relationship in the future year and thank them and the warehouse staff for their help (Universal Cycles website).

Weldtite

The boxes of rubber patch off-cuts received from Weldtite enable us to send much needed tyre repair material out to the workshops. It is amazing how items that are unwanted in the UK can be so valuable to people in other parts of the world.

Thank you Weldtite (Weldtite website).

Raleigh Bikes

Raleigh have been regular supporters of Re-Cycle over the years.

We are pleased to have such a well-known company supporting our work (Raleigh Bikes website).
