GMTV film show update on Re-Cycle East's partner project in South Africa

On 12 December 2006, GMTV showed a Christmas update on a previous project from one of Re-Cycle's partners in Africa.
GMTV had first broadcast live from Tenyane secondary school in Northern South Africa in October 2005.
GMTV helped build two new classrooms, gave the school its own water pump and donated 50 Royal Mail bikes to help the children get to school.
One of the bikes went to 15-year old Mathapelo who used to walk 6 km to school each day. Mathapelo was overwhelmed when she received her bike. She had never had a bike before so she had to learn how to ride it, but now her journey takes her 10 minutes rather than over an hour.
In 2006, Re-Cycle helped GMTV send them a further 120 Royal Mail bikes.
The
container reached Tenyane in October 2006 and Royal Mail mechanic, Steve
Roberts, was flown out to set the bikes up and give the students some advice
on looking after their bicycles. He said the children were overwhelmed
with the bikes and they have made a huge difference to their lives. They
were so willing to share what little they have, it is very humbling'.
