Loading a container of bikes completed 'at the double'

Loading at the doubleOn Saturday 25 November 2006, soldiers from the Army Military Corrective Training Centre helped Re-Cycle load around 400 bicycles into a container for shipping to The Gambia.

This is part of a new initiative between Re-Cycle and the Army, who will be working with us stripping and refurbishing unwanted bicycles ready to send to Africa.

Major Neil Lewis, who is in charge of vocational training at the Centre, came up with the idea to keep detainees occupied and to teach them skills that may be of use when they return to civilian life.

This container will be going to a project in The Gambia, which is run by Lesley Gaye, from Chelmsford.

If you would be interested in future loading days, contact us for dates. It is not all hard work and we supply lunch. Typically, we start around 9.30am and finish when it gets dark.  Please contact Sue for directions on 01206 863111 or email info@re-cycle.org.
