From February 2007, two South Africans based in London are cycling from Cairo to Capetown to raise money for Re-Cycle and also one of Re-Cycle's partner charities Bicycle Empowerment Network (BEN) in Namibia.

Simon Alston and Craig Northam, as very keen cyclists, were delighted to support charities providing bicycles, and promoting their use, in African communities.

They hope to raise sufficient money to send a container of bicycles across to Africa and distribute them amongst health workers and school children. They commented "It costs £2,500 to send a large shipment of bicycles to Africa, but with your help we hope we can raise at least double that…"

Their route, which should take about 100 days takes in 10 countries as they travel in excess of 12,000 km from North to South. They will encounter all the terrain and scenery that Africa has to offer, culminating in their inevitable arrival 'home' in Cape Town.

See their website www.cairo2capetown.org/ for further details including how to make donations to Re-Cycle or BEN.
